Hi,
My question is: when the professional tailors cut sleeves? After fitting on a client body or before? For example in a book "Classic Tailoring Techniques for Menswear” by Roberto Cabrera, author recommends to make a calico sleeves for a fitting… What is Your routine?
Thanks.
Hello Miłosz,
Depending on the cloth design, figure, past fittings and experience of the cutter, the sleeves can be cut straight from the actual fabric or calico. Both are correct if they lead to the right results.
I cut almost all sleeves from final cloth without calico. I would cut a calico if I anticipate that the figure + garment design + fabric design is going to give me unexpected challenges.
